Craig Andre Lee

June 22, 1956 ~ February 25, 2020 (age 63)

Mr. Craig Andre Lee whose parents, Charles and Bettie Lee preceded him in death, was born June 22, 1956 in Waco, Texas, On February 25, 2020, Craig died at Providence Hospice.

Craig grew up in North Waco where he was the fifth born of nine children (three of whom preceded him in death -- Steve, Terry, and Charles, Jr.)  He attended Barron Springs Elementary, West Junior High, and Jefferson-Moore High School where his passion for sports and music was birthed. Craig enjoyed playing football, basketball, and singing in the choir.

Craig was outgoing and friendly and seldom met a person who didn’t like him. He was affectionately called “the Luther of North Waco” and would often sing in some of the local night clubs. Craig enjoyed performing at family events and he would happily respond to requests to perform just about any R & B classic on the spot.

Craig worked as a cook and became an excellent chef (sometimes called the singing chef) where he honed his skills as a barbeque chef extraordinaire who could smoke any meat to perfection. ”. Craig taught his nephews and nieces the tricks of his trade on the grill and he proudly gave tips to his siblings and others.

Craig’s Christian upbringing played a great part in the role that he would later assume in taking care of his parents during their years of failing health. He was an excellent nurse and caregiver or them and he assumed the role of helping planfamily holiday gatherings. Craig always paid attention to everyone’s food favorites and he tried to make sure that these favorites were on the holiday menus. This really endeared him to his many nephews, and nieces, including the greats. These loving gatherings were a time for family devotions and prayer, fun, cooking, eating, playing games, sharing stories (and oh how everyone loved Craig’s stories), and watching/talking sports where Craig was Mr. Encyclopedia of all sports, never forgetting a date, team, or player’s name.

Craig is survived by five of his siblings, Bettie (Ramsey), Larry, Frank, Sr. (Susan), Victor (Karen), and Kevin (Lucinda); two aunts, Ruth Raspberry and Barbara Howard; nineteen nephews and nieces (Richard Lee and Iris DuBose preceded him in death) Dory, Tony, Jonathan, Adrienne, Arthur, Sam, Crystal, Tomika, Sheila, Nicole, Charles III, Frank, Jr., Elliot, Marcus, Jaylen, Elijah, Keating, Dawn, Peyton, and Isaiah; and a host of great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
