Gloria Jean Sneed Lyons affectionately known as “Jean Sneed” by her friends and family was born on April 19th, 1943 to William and Myrtle Sneed in Lorena, Texas.
She attended G.W. Carver School in the McGregor I.S.D. School system. She met and married Charles Lyon. Jean began her career in Housekeeping at Hillcrest Baptist in Waco, Texas which later became Baylor Scott and White Medical Center-Hillcrest. Her career at Hillcrest lasted over 45 years. She was known on the job and in the community for her abilities on doing her job in an excellent and professional manner. When not working Jean was known for her love of sports and travelling with her family. She was a die heart Dallas Cowboys fan (Go Cowboys!), Baylor Girls Basketball and McGregor High School Sports. At family gatherings and church functions, she was known for her deviled eggs, sweet corn and green beans. (We will miss her deviled eggs).
Gloria joined Roberson Chapel at an early age where she begin working as an usher with her mother and sister. Working as a Doorkeeper in the House of the Lord for over 60 years gave her great joy. She will be remember for her sweet smile and quiet spirit.
Jean was preceded in death by her father, William; mother Myrtle; Sisters; Johnnie Mae, Minnie, Irene, and Corine,Brothers; William and Robert.
She leaves to cherish her memories; one daughter Theresa Perry (Eugene) of El Paso, Texas; one granddaughter; LaShika(Megan) of Charleston, South Carolina; one grandson Avery and one great grandson D’amontai of New Braunfels, Texas; Three Sisters; Mary Gee of McGregor, Texas, Myrtle (Rev. W.A. Forbes) of Copperas Cove and Cartellia Bryant of Los Angeles, CA; Two brothers; Larl (Sheila) of Las Vegas, NV and James of Altus, OK; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
