Mr. Joe Warren Walker was born May 9th, 1941 to Warren Walker and Christine Burks in Bosqueville, Texas. He was the eldest of eight children, Betty Lou, Henry L., Daisy Mae, Elijah, Wymone, Yvonne, and Renae.
Mr. Joe was an avid reader, and self-taught man, during the period of segregation he served as the first black Regional Manager of Eckerd’s Drug Store and ensured that people of every color in the Waco community were treated with dignity when in need of pharmaceutical care. Asuccessful entrepreneur and well known in the community, for several years he and his wife Emma Walker co-owned Walker’s Auditorium which was a popular place for social gatherings.
Mr. Joe Walker was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years Emma Louise Walker.
He is survived by his children Steve Walker (Mary Walker-Webb), Sandra Kay Williams (Willie Williams) Ricky, Rodney, (deceased), Joe Jr. (deceased), Chris two sister in laws Minnie Williams, Patsy Bradshaw (Uncle Skipper) , and a devoted cousin Edna Webb. Joe was beloved by all of his family members and was like a second father to his cousins Joseph and John Louis. He leaves a rich legacy of loved ones including eleven grandchildren: Naomi, Shaimyaa, Tara, Jamal, Shala, Quntabia, Meme, Stevie, Vanessa, Steven, and Janae; thirteen Great-grandchildren, and two Great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
If he we was here today he would be wearing a bright smile happy to see the love and strong bonds of the family he cared so deeply for, and without question he would be helping someone as he was a king with a servants heart.
