Obituary

Lafate Lewis Mims was born on June 9, 1949 in Buffalo, Texas to Jerelene Tolbert. Lafate grew up in Freestone County. He was a great basketball player where he graduated from Butler High School. He served our country in U.S. Army from March 26, 1966 to March 26, 1971. He met his loving wife in the year of 1971 and they married on August 31, 1973. They would have celebrated 48 years of marriage on August 31, 2020.

Survivors: a loving and devoted wife, Joyce Marie Mims; 3 daughters, Yolanda Baucham (Vonell), LaThersa Mims, and LaShonda Mims (John); 1 son, Charles Mims (Dion), three step-sons Donnell Kennedy (Alzada), Darryl Kennedy, and Lorenzo Kennedy; one sister, Ruby Foler (Minyard); one brother Robert Bryant (Wanda); 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces, 2 nephews a host of other relatives and friends.
