Verta Mae Lawson of Waco, TX passed away November 01, 2020 at the age of 94. She succumbed to pneumonia after fighting with Covid-19 for over 60 days.
She was born March 22, 1926 to Mr. William F. and Mrs. May Jane Howlett (Kelly) in Riesel, TX. Six (6) brothers, including her twin Artie Howlett, and one (1) sister, preceded her in death. Mrs. Annie Smith (CA), Mrs. Ruth Oliver (TX), Mr. Franklin Howlett (TX), Mrs. Velda Cato (TX), and a host of nieces and nephews and relatives survive her.
Verta accepted Jesus Christ early in her childhood and continued to share the gospel throughout her life. Verta Lawson graduated high school Waco, TX where she married her high school beau for a short time. She moved to San Diego, CA 1959 where she met and married John D. Lawson, who preceded her in death 1977. During that marriage she made a career as a seamstress until she retired and moved to Pasadena CA in 1986. In 1989, she moved her residency to Dallas, TX for several years until she returned to Waco (1994) continuing to sew small items for “giving back to the community” at the Senior Center. Her remaining years were spent in skilled nursing facility where she continued to be a very sociable soul.
